Lalin Paranavitana joined the Colombo Stock Exchange in 1991 and has over 25 years’ experience in the SL Capital Markets. He spearheaded the automation of the exchange and has been responsible for all Information Technology projects. His most recent project at the CSE was the feasibility study and procurement of the CSE CCP project working alongside the CBSL and SEC.
He was the Project Manager/Technical consultant for CSE USAID Central Securities Depository (CSD) project and worked with the USAID staff in the evaluation and selection of vendor. He was responsible in migrating the CSD from a mainframe environment to an oracle-based client Server environment. Jointly designed with vendor, supervised software development of the CSD and was responsible for testing and implementing it successfully within the stipulated time frame of 9 months.
Lalin represented the CSE as the Head of Project/Technical consultant in the evaluation and selection of a fully fault tolerant state of the art distributed processing Automated Trading System. In 2009 London Stock Exchange bought over the vendor responsible for developing the system and subsequently migrated their Trading System to a distributed processing environment. He was responsible for the supervision, testing and implementation of the Trading system.
He was also responsible for Designing, procuring and Implementing a fully fault tolerant IT security system (firewalls) and a network monitoring system for the CSE trading environment. Designed and implemented a fully fault tolerant Wide Area Network (WAN) that could be switched to the Disaster Recovery site in the event of a site disaster. Designed procured and implemented a fully fall tolerant Local Area Network (LAN). Responsible for implementing and documenting a fully functional backup site with oracle database replication. Implemented a comprehensive Business Continuity Plan and obtained ISO 22301 Certification.
Lalin holds a BSc in Computer Science.
